What are same day dentures?
Same-day partial dentures are considered a type of artificial tooth in which a tooth extraction and the placement of dentures are completed on the same day. They are false teeth that are temporary and can be worn as soon as your teeth are extracted, which is why some people consider them to be among the best dentures currently available on the market. After having your teeth extracted, you won’t be able to put in your regular dentures for a few weeks, possibly even for a few months. Because your mouth, once it has healed from extraction surgery, may have a slightly different shape than it did immediately after the procedure, it is best to wait until your mouth has healed before making permanent dentures.
How long does it take to make same-day dentures? Immediate dentures can be made in a day, closing any spaces that may exist in your smile. The fact that you won’t have teeth until your permanent dentures are ready and your mouth has fully healed means that you might have to go around with a crooked smile for several weeks while you wait for them to be made. People who have a history of sensitive teeth and gums may find this task particularly challenging. Nevertheless, there are a number of additional reasons why this is not a good idea, such as the following:
- Painful inflammation of the gums
- Problems with consuming food
- Having trouble communicating verbally
Same-day dentures can be helpful in preventing these problems from occurring. Because you can start wearing them as soon as you leave the dentist’s office, you won’t have to worry about spaces in your teeth, and they’ll make it easier for you to get used to talking and eating. In addition to this, they help maintain the health of the muscles and joints in your mouth.
Same-day denture aftercare procedures
The following are the same-day denture aftercare tips that you may need to know:
- You should not remove your dentures until the morning of your extraction. During this period, wash your hands carefully and remove your dentures with both hands. Position yourself over the sink or counter.
- Make sure the denture is thoroughly cleaned with cold water. Using cold water, scrub both the inside and outside of the denture with the denture brush. You should avoid using toothpaste or soap.
- Place the dentures carefully on the counter and gently rinse your mouth with a teaspoon of salt in 8 ounces of hot water. Do not force yourself to expectorate.
- Replace the dentures in the mouth. Return to cleaning the natural teeth that remain as usual.
- Repeat the procedure for two consecutive mornings.
- Take the denture out at bedtime four days after the teeth are extracted. Using the process described above, rinse and scrub them. Rinse your mouth with warm salt water. Place the denture cover in its cup and immerse it in clean, cold water. Leave it alone while you sleep. In the morning, after you’ve finished rinsing, put them back in your mouth. Rinse it every 7–10 days.
- Ensure that your dentist’s guidelines are strictly followed and that you continue to take your medications on time unless your dentist changes them.
- After the extraction and immediate denture, you will be on a soft or liquid diet for the first few days. After a few weeks, you can resume solid foods, but avoid tough and chewy foods during the healing period.
- If you experience any sore spots, make an appointment with your dentist to have the denture adjusted.
- A dentist may advise you to return after a week of extractions to see how you are doing.
