Emax Crowns

E-max crowns are dental crowns made from lithium disilicate material generally used by dentists to restore the integrity of the teeth damaged by the tooth decay and are also used as an add-on treatment after a root canal procedure. These crowns are made entirely with a single block of special ceramic material that’s durable and are useful for reinforcing the structure of your teeth by protecting them from further damage while also being aesthetically appealing. E-max crowns are slightly translucent resembling natural tooth color hence, making it a popular choice for restoring teeth in the anterior region.

Benefits of E-max crowns

E-max crowns consist of several benefits making them an ideal crown choice.

  • The best near match to your natural teeth: An important esthetic requirement for all-ceramic prostheses is that they should possess sufficient translucency that matches your natural teeth. E-max crowns are all-ceramic prostheses that possess sufficient translucent to give your teeth a natural look. Unlike zirconia crowns, E-max crowns have an ideal blend of translucency and lifelike appearance as well as offering better aesthetics and strength to dental crowns.
  • All-ceramic prostheses: E-max crowns do not contain any metal alloy underneath the porcelain which means that an unsightly gray line of underlying metal will not be visible at the gum lines making it look entirely natural to look just like your natural teeth.
  • Durability: E-max crowns are made with lithium disilicate, which is a glass-ceramic having an excellent strength. Thus, E-max crowns do not chip easily and are less likely to crack or fracture during clinical usage and help them last longer.
  • Ability to be milled to create the perfect shape: Another advantage of E-max crowns is that they can be fabricated easily using CAD-CAM milling to give crowns perfect shape and size which also matches the natural teeth of a patient. E-max crowns are prepared from a high-quality monolithic block of lithium disilicate. In this technique, all the dentist needs to do is to make a digital impression of the teeth, and feed It into the CAD-CAM machine software. A customized E-max crown is then ready for cementation.
  • Conservation of natural tooth structure: Along with excellent strength E-max crowns are fracture resistant and these crowns can be created in very thin sections which helps conserve more of the existing original tooth. During preparation this not only ensures optimal esthetics but dentists also don’t have to remove as much of the natural tooth structure resulting in greater tooth strength and better oral health
  • Multiple options available for teeth restoration: The E-max system is not only limited to crowns only but also has options such as veneers, inlays, onlays, overlays, and even short-span bridges to replace front teeth.

Difference in emax crowns and zirconium crown

E-max crowns are an all-ceramic crown system that lay on top of teeth to appear translucent. The main factor in E-max crown vs Zirconia crown is their strength and aesthetics. E-max crowns are created from a single block of tough material called lithium disilicate which means there are no joints whatsoever in the crown that means they are better equipped to resist breaking or cracking, than the zirconium crowns.

Even though most commonly used by dentists, Zirconia crowns may appear unnatural and distinguishable from the rest of your natural teeth making them aesthetically unappealing or as strong as E-max crowns. These crowns can withstand more pressure than the zirconia crowns. Zirconia crowns are fine, however if you want aesthetically pleasing and more durable dental crowns then you’ll want to go for E-max.
